Updated: Aug 14, 2019
Perfect summer (and any time of the year really…) getaway, Cyprus, set a new record in tourist arrivals this holiday season.
According to Passenger Survey data, tourist arrivals reached 531,030 in July 2017, compared to 482,132 in July 2016, an increase of 10.1 percent.
“July 2017 had the highest volume of tourist arrivals ever recorded in Cyprus during that month”, said the Passenger Survey service.
Additionally, arrivals between January to July 2017 reached 1,994,236 compared to 1,737,372 during the same period of 2016. An increase of 14.8 percent, another record broken for the first seven months of any year.
In terms of tourism revenues, June saw a rise of 15.3 percent to €347.2m over the same month in 2016. The Cyprus Tourism Organisation (CTO) called this increase “remarkable”.
Total revenue for the first half of the year had reached a record of nearly €1 billion, a rise of almost 20 percent over the same period last year.
Cyprus Tourism Organisation said that the average spending increased from nearly all markets for the period January – June, due to increased daily spending or due to a prolonged stay of the tourists or both.
Indeed, Cyprus experienced a successful summer season and the focus now shifts to boosting winter tourism.
Transport Minister, Marios Demetriades and his ministry are working in cooperation with Paphos airport operator Hermes and the Cyprus Tourism Organisation in order to promote Cyprus winter tourism abroad.
International Property Network (IPN) based in the coastal city of Limassol hopes that the increase in tourists will lead to the continued growth of the property sector.
IPN’s Operations Manager, Achilleas Kolonas comments,
”By exposing our island to more tourists, we hope to see a continued increase in property sales on the island over the winter months.”
